My name is Rosie and I’m in my fourth year of medicine based at Waikato Hospital this year!  I grew up in the (not-so) mighty Timaru, and with family across the lower South Island I’m definitely a small town girl at heart. Up in Auckland I’ve got myself involved in all things rural health, from the Grassroots team, through to teaching and rural research. I love the rural community at uni and advocating for our regional and rural students. I’m passionate about contributing to rural communities in my work in the future and encouraging other students to do the same.  Outside of uni, I’m a huge fan of the outdoors and am looking forward to living out my tramping, camping, adventure dreams this year away from the big smoke. I’m always up for chat (seriously I can talk to anyone for ages haha) so don’t hesitate to come say hi 🙂If you want to get in touch, you can email president@grassroots.org.nz

Together, we will teach Aucklangi true kiwi slang.

I am Genevieve, a third-year medical student with a love for running, the outdoors, and (slightly obsessively) staying organised. Although I am not from New Zealand, my roots are in rural South Africa. Growing up as a farmer’s daughter, I witnessed firsthand the stark disparities in healthcare between rural and urban communities. This shaped my passion for advocating for underserved communities and working toward more equitable access to healthcare.  Grassroots is where these passions come together. It is an inspiring platform that raises awareness of important issues in rural and underserved health, and I am excited to work alongside you all to make 2026 a successful and impactful year for the club.

I’m really passionate about promoting rural health and supporting students interested in rural medicine. I was one of the RRAS Reps last year and I’m looking forward to being apart of the Grassroots team again in 2026.

Outside of medicine, I love being outdoors, especially tramping or running around on a hockey pitch.

Kia ora whānau, I’m Omar, a 3rd year med student and one of your edu reps for 2026. My goal this year is to make sure no one in FMHS suffers academically (except me). Despite my strong rural background (went to school 5 mins away from Grafton campus) I'm passionate about rural health and along with Ethan we will make sure the rural scene in FMHS is accessible and friendly to all.

Tēnā koutou katoa,  Ko Bernadette Dykes tōku ingoa. I am a final-year medical student and have spent the past year based in Northland, a place that has genuinely come to feel like home. It feels like a real privilege to be training in Te Tai Tokerau, where learning is closely tied to community, continuity of care, and meaningful relationships with patients and whānau.  I grew up mostly in Taranaki and Hawke’s Bay, so regional life has always felt familiar to me. That background has shaped my ongoing interest in regional health and the kind of medicine that is grounded in connection, trust, and whanaungatanga. My time in Northland has only deepened that appreciation, there is something special about the pace, the people, their whānau and their stories, and the way learners are welcomed into teams and communities here.  Outside of the hospital, I love being part of the wider Whangārei community. I enjoy spending time outdoors, running, baking for friends, and singing with the Whangārei Harmony Chorus. These parts of life outside medicine are really important to me and are a big part of what has made Northland feel like home.  As Pūkawakawa Site Rep, I’m excited to help welcome students to Northland and share what makes this place such a special environment to live and learn!

Kia ora Koutou!  I’m Georgia and I have the honour of being your Waikato Regional Rural Rep! I’m currently navigating my way through my 5th year of Medicine after taking the scenic route via a Bachelor of science in Psychology and Biosciences. Growing up in the costal town of Pauanui and now based at Waikato Hospital, I intimately understand the challenges of accessing healthcare in rural areas.  You may know Pauanui for the surf but I spent most of my time on the farm and competing in show jumping. Since moving to Auckland I don’t get to ride as much but definitely still enjoy any opportunity to get outdoors for a quiet hike or beach mish.  For my third year on the Grassroots Exec I’m excited to bring you lots of opportunities to meet other people who are interested in Rural health and provide a platform for rural students to share their experiences.  Can’t wait to see you out there.

Hey Team  I’m Aidan, your BoP site rep for 2026. I’m a 5th year and am absolutely stoked to be living and learning in such a beautiful region of the country. I’m unfortunately a Jaffa but for any doubters, I was the ex northland gumboot throwing champ for 3 yrs straight and have spent many a summer on my grandparents farm. Clearly, I’m overqualified for this role.   I’m a big outdoors person and am chuffed to be in the best region to support an outdoorsy lifestyle (and my golf addiction). When not using my whiteboard to study best believe I’ll be exploring this region (dragging the others along with me).  Rural health has always been interesting to me, but it was after my first taste of rural medicine on my GP placement up north that I was set on pursuing it this year.   This would be my first exec role and I’m honoured to be the PR man for such a beautiful area and such kind people.   I’m looking forward to planning some fun outdoor events and tutorials this year and being your advocate for any problems, pains  and suggestions you might have.
